Social Media Planning for 2013? Here Are Some Tips

Online Media Coordinator

It's almost the end of August, which means you might be planning budgets and strategy for 2013, if you haven't already begun. Clickz had a great article on social media planning, from which I've detailed my top tactics and added my own commentary based on my experience and what I think works.

  1. Leverage the social sharing feature on content and social media advertising to reach the right audience. I can tell you that I am more likely to click on an ad if I know one of my friends, or even better, a lot of my friends have liked it already. I'm more likely to read an article if one of my friends has shared it. And I'm probably not the only one.

  2. There is social media beyond Facebook, so explore other avenues. YouTube and Twitter are almost just as successful as Facebook campaigns, so dedicate media spend to YouTube if you have a lot of video content, or if your target audience is on that platform. Make sure to incorporate Twitter into your social sharing strategy.

  3. Thought leadership is becoming more important. Be transparent. Without always trying to sell your product or brand, develop a relationship with your audience first and foremost, expanding the awareness of your brand. Then, they'll start clicking on your ads because they know how credible of a leader and brand you are.

  4. Create more videos and photos. Simple. These don't have to be extremely intricate, but make sure you're utilizing the proper mechanisms and platforms to the best of your ability. This include Facebook, YouTube, and if pertaining to your industry, Pinterest.
