Diaspora is now a Community-Run and Distributed Social Media Network that allows entities, companies, and organizations to host their own pods and completely own/protect their own data. The founders of the network have now moved on to let the community run it with all the familiar features of a social network, including: personal profiles, hashtags, shares/re-shares, mentions, and love (instead of merely "Liking" something). The main difference is that entities may host their own community with open source code and export the data in standard form without interference from the IT Team at any social network.
